Sunny was brought as an egg to the cave where the dragonets were kept by Dune, the SandWing guardian and a member of the Talons of Peace. This could mean that Dune still respected, cared about, or was even loyal to Thorn, despite taking her egg to fulfill the Prophecy. It seems that she liked the name "Sunny," since that is what Dune named her. However, it appears that the two SandWings were once close friends, as Thorn mentioned discussing names for her egg with him. Thorn even put up "wanted" signs for him for many years. Thorn took this as a sign of betrayal and had been searching for him for years, hoping to capture and kill him. Sunny has a frill starting near the top of her head to the base of her tail, however, her frill turns into NightWing spikes, running from the end of her frill to the end of her tail.Ī SandWing named Dune, a former Outclaw, stole Sunny's egg from Thorn (leader of Outclaws as of The Brightest Night) after she had buried Sunny's egg in the sand near the Scorpion Den. She even has the classic NightWing teardrop scales running down her sides. Unlike most SandWings, Sunny has the scale pattern, leg and foot shape, snout, and jaw of a NightWing. Even so, she still radiates heat from her scales and has the instincts of her tribe, such as a dislike of water, as shown in The Lost Heir and The Hidden Kingdom, a small appetite (as she only ate one or two lizards for dinner under the mountain), and a liking for very bright sunlight and warmth, as well as sand, like a normal SandWing. This is because her father Stonemover was one of the NightWings, making Sunny a half-SandWing, half-NightWing hybrid. She also has gray-green eyes and golden scales like the sun, unlike other SandWings, who usually have pale, sandy-colored scales and obsidian-black eyes. Sunny lacks a poisonous barbed tail, a powerful and important physical feature of the SandWings and one of their natural weapons. Although Sunny is now more direct and stands up for herself, her kindness and selflessness hasn't gone away, and she uses these to be the best teacher and founder that she can. However, in The Brightest Night, Sunny finally made herself heard by introducing the plan to bring Burn, Blister, and Blaze together for the first time in years to discuss the SandWing throne. For a long time, Sunny was usually overlooked by her friends, often being considered nothing more than an agreeable little sister with no opinions of her own. She always tries to see the best in everyone and everything, although she gets frustrated by being considered naive. Sunny is a kind, empathetic dragon with an enormous love for others. Although Sunny is directly in line for the throne, she chose to create a school called Jade Mountain Academy, where dragonets from all of the seven tribes could meet and interact. She is also the youngest of the five Dragonets of Destiny, and was present during The Brightest Night, where she gave her mother, Thorn, the Eye of Onyx, declaring her as the rightful SandWing Queen. ‘Sunny Came Home’ was a 1998 Grammy Award winner for Song of the Year as well Record of the Year and some of you may remember that her presentation was interrupted by the rapper, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, who protested that Puff Daddy beat his group Wu-Tan Clan for best rap album that year.Princess Sunny is a young SandWing-NightWing hybrid with unusual golden scales and gray-green eyes as well as the protagonist of The Brightest Night. From the album ‘A Few Small Repairs’, it’s one of a number of tracks that fall into the category of story songs and the jaunty melody belies the dark lyrics (which Colvin has referred to as a “murder ballad”) and you have to wonder how many listeners truly listened to or understood the words behind this effort. Probably the song she is most famous for is ‘Sunny Came Home’, a tale of an inmate released back into the world but who returned home with only vengeance on her mind as she proceeds to burn down the homes of her enemies. Last week’s chain featured Sam Outlaw, who was christened Sam Morgan, and hails from Aberdeen, South Dakota, a state which is also the birthplace of singer-songwriter Shawn Colvin who was born some 250 miles further south in the town of Vermillion.
